I wonder if you can take a microphone and install it inside the engine bay. Then connect the mic to the stereo.

Then I'd have a reason to upgrade the factory speakers.

Why not just cut holes in the firewall, cover them with a mesh screen, and let the sweet sound come direct?

Hrmm.... tough decision... Cut holes in the fire wall so you can hear the engine and feel the Heat of the engine as well, or place a microphone and have comfort with crystal clear sound... I'd go with the Microphone, but that's just me..

Actually, that'd be a nice task, placing a microphone in a position where the heat wouldn't affect the clarity and rig it to the stereo. That'd take some thought.

Why not just take the hood and truck lid off? That way you could hear the engine and be truly "topless".
