You will need to answer your own questions but some food for thought
1. Are you happy with the price?
2. If you don't want a plastic window (I would not) then get a 2002 or newer. Or you can replace but I would only buy this specific car if you really like it.
3. Is the car in good shape? Don't assume it is just because of the miles as these cars are driven hard. Are there any modifications - this does not add value to the car for me personally it detracts. If you can't evaluate the car take it to a trusted mechanic
4. If you don't consider yourself fix-it-yourselfer or a mechanic, establish a good relationship with one of the honda dealerships mechanics. Don't take it to a third party for work such as jiffy-lube. This isn't an accord or civic - they don't know this car.
I thought I read somewhere that this car is #1 for owner satisfaction; certainly among the best in the auto industry. It is low maintenance for a sports car. This is a great car and if you are like most everyone else who owns this car you will not regret.
Do your homework up front, buy what you can afford/want, enjoy it and don't look back.
Just my $0.02.

I own a 2000, and pretty much love everything about it, except for the plastic read window. Fortunately, i drive with the top down 95% of the time, so its really not an issue. i have 42K on mine, and the only repair work was a problem with the idle. no transmission problems, and car drives as strong, if not stronger, than new. These cars are driven pretty hard (as they should be!), but there is a fine line between that and abuse, so make sure to do your homework with respects to its mechanical 'soundness'. I think that as new models go, you are getting the 'original interpretation' of what the designers of this car had in mind (albeit some might believe me naive to think this i'm sure). with the introduction of the 2.2L model, it makes the 'early years' that much more special (i.e. no 120hp/l, no 9k redline). good luck in your decision. I'm splitting hairs here, as any S2K choice is far than other choices out there (at this price range for sure!)

get the extended warranty on it. I bought my 00 as a honda certified and 2 month later the transmission was replaced under warranty due to some issues. There do seem to be more minor bugs with the 00 cars vs. later ones but nothing major.
Well i have had plenty of experience working on cars. I just recently sold my rx7. i have also owned a 93 Supra show car. All and all i feel i am very confident in my mechanic skills. I am worried about the tranny as i have heard the stories. is there anyway for me to get an extended warranty on a car that has expired? The car is the color i want 30k on the clock, bone stock, and he's asking $19k.
the 2002 would be very nice, however i can't afford the extra plus taxes and reg. That and the fact that currently i'm car-less so finding an S2k is a top priority for me. as i am getting tired of borrowing my roommates cars.
