Default About to pull the trigger....

Im gonna make this short since i'm pretty tired. What do you guys think about this deal....

2003 - Sebring silver - 22,056 miles.....

The car is a salvage title, hit in the left back, car is in perfect condition, no frame damage... over all in great condition, engine drives great, handling is great... So its basically in good to very good condition. It is a salvage title, we can get it for $17k flat... Good deal, decent deal, or pass?

Im planning on keepin the car for a while so resale is important but not my biggest issue......

As long as you know it's a salvage title and are prepared to put up with whatever other problems that may come along with it. Your saving at least $6k-$7k over the KBB price.

Just be sure to check the car out as thoroughly as you can. You say there is no frame damage but it would be a good idea to put the car on a rack and check the frame just to be sure. Also, check the fit of the top, the doors, the trunk, etc.

If you think you'll be happy with the car then buy it.

so they totalled a car with light damage? Doesn't make sense. Insurance companies don't like to total cars, they repair them up to 70% value usually.

For a car to be totalled with no frame damage is suspect. Did they TELL you there is no frame damage? Why trust them?

It's a decent deal if you keep it a long long time. It will be difficult to sell later. figure it will fetch 50-60% current value when you sell.

... which is why you should only pay 50-60% of kbb value now. $17k is too much for a salvage title, period.

There is no way i would pay 17k for a salvage title. If their telling you it was just
rear end damage sounds kinda fishy. Ask who did the body work and ask to see the list of repairs done to the car.

I understand what you guys mean. I didn't mean light damage, obviously there had to be decent damage for it be a salvage title. But it really was only hit on the left side, you can see on the left there is a brand new tailight while the origonal is still on the right side.... All the VIN match on the car exept for the trunk and the bumper which were replaced (both from the same car). Right now I'm going on the fact that he said no frame damage, but I told him if we were going to buy the car then we would take it to a well know Honda/acura shop around here to check it out to make sure everything checks out ok, which he had no problem doing and actually suggested we do tha before buying any car, especially an s2000.

Thats thing though, I know $17k is a bit high but the car looks and drives great. And I really cant afford to pay much more than $18k, so unless I get salvaged I'm gonna be left with a high milage 01, and I really want an 02+..... Sp i'm kind of in the cross roads. Any more advice would be great!!!!

I paid 19k for an 02 with 30k miles with a clean title. So 2k more but more miles, but man, when it's a clean title I should have much less difficulty selling it later. If you're gonna keep it forever, then maybe you should buy it.

I agree with everyone above. See if they would lower the price more to sway your decision. If not, just wait and save a grand or two more and get an 02 with decent mileage. It'll be worth the peace of mind.
