Default Adding to exsisting oil.....

I recently purchased my S from Carmax. They did an oil change before selling the car but not sure what brand oil they used. It now looks to be a quart low. Which oil brand would be safe to add until I get the oil changed? Would it be ok to add mobil 10-30 synthetic to regular oil? Thnx

Yes, just add any 10w-30. They all mix.

If you are really worried about what might be in there right now, however, it's not a huge cost to just swap it out. You never know if the used car guys actually did anything they claim to have done.

You might also want to check the filter. It should be a Honda PCX 004 filter (specific to the S2000), and it should be torqued down more than a normal filter. If it's some other kind of filter, I recommend replacing it with the S2000-specific filter.

Mobil 1 is good, but Royal Purple FTW.

The one I bought hadn't had the oil changed in a long time (never driven). So I drove it home, changed the oil, and babied it like a new car for over a month.

Just came from the dealer service department. Got the oil changed and full inspection. Feel just a lil more secure now.

Honda's, and most Japanese cars HATE Royal Purple. It has also been proven to be one of the worst oils on the market. Just an FYI. If you really want to run high end oil, run Amsoil, if not, just run Mobil 1.
uh oh... oil debate.

From what I've heard, many people like Royal Purple (RP). I've been using RP for at around 30k miles since I got my S2k, and it's been smooth like butter.

What I've read up on the forums is that RP uses Molybdenum Disulfide, which has lubricating properties, but can turn into a solid under extreme heat conditions? Or some kind of conditions, which can ruin an engine... I forget if it's the sulfur part of the moly that has an adverse effect.

http://www.performancemotoroil.com/R...rple_info.html

There's a link about RP being bad, but that study cited in the article was also paid for by Amsoil. I remember reading on the s2ki boards about some guy that uses Amsoil, and puts in a teaspoon of Moly after each oil change... which in effect is like having RP.

Lots of people vouch for RP, others say it ruins engines. Really only way to find out if RP is really that bad is to take apart an engine that has used RP for its life. It could be that I'm screwing myself by using RP, but the Moly additive is just covering all that up with making everything nice and smooth...

As far as personal anecdotal evidence goes, Got my s2k at 50k, been using RP since then and am at 80k with no adverse problems, no burning oil.

Has anyone taken apart an engine using RP and noticed that the oil truly had adverse effects?

Yea....oil debate is fun

I think its VERY rare that ANY type of oil has been proven to fail an engine if its within the recommended viscosity range and changed at recommended intervals.

However.....most people have an oil they swear by. "I've used this oil for xx years and no issues!" thats great....... I have little things i like to do because they have worked in the past and I believe in them.

I could probably use the cheapest oil out there and as long as i change the filter/oil every 3k and check the level at each fill up....i dont think I'll be standing on the side of the road due to an oil issue.

I would never use RP just because i don't believe its better than lots of oils that i can get cheaper.....
