Default Advice on buying a 2001 S2000

I'm sure you've seen a zillion of these newbie questions but I would appreciate some advice.

I test drove a mint condition 2001 S2000 with under 18K miles. I'm very impressed overall with the car. The one thing I found disconcerting was the sound of the engine. Sure, I've read a number of comments about the hi-revving S2000 -- it's the stuff of legend. I'm curious what's a normal cruising RPM?

My experience on the test drive was the entire time the car sounded like a normal car would wound to red line. The 'buzz' did drop down to a bit under 4k RPMs for the brief spell I popped it into 6th. But by then I was at 75.

I've never driven a car like it so I'm not sure what to expect. Thanks for any advice/insights you can offer.

Speed when engine is at 3,000 RPM in sixth gear: 55 MPH (give or take a little)

(it's a high rev engine...have no worries; it was designed that way. Although, I would get a 2002 or higher

the gearing is very short; it is normal to be over 3000rpm most of the time.

For some people 6000rpm is a normal cruising rpm.

What makes a 2002 significantly better? Does the 2001 have problems or reliability issues?

Thanks in advance for any advice you can give me.
02 has rear glass window and electronic defroser, softer suspesion, better transmission and sound system. other than that, they are pretty much the same.

It's VINYL, not LEATHER.

the only real differences are the glass window and the cheapass tweeters in the doors (if you cared about that, you'd probably have aftermarket speakers anyway). I don't know what the tranny differences are, must be a slight revision because the gear ratios are the same.
