advice on handling a ticket
FYI...I found this searching the web. I believe this applies to Missouri:

How long it takes for the points to go away
If you have another ticket that results in a points assessment within the 12 months following the date the points are
posted to the state's system, there will be no reduction in points.

If you take defered adjudification DO NOT get another ticket within 6 months (some places are a year) If you dont get a ticket in that time it falls from your record. If you do get one they both show on your record and you CANNOT take defensive driving for either of them...
Thats how I was told it worked in Texas when I got my small town cop ticket.

Call the precinct office and ask the clerk if you qualify for dropping the ticket through defensive driving.
When you appear before the judge...request defferred judication if they have such a program.

Havn't got a ticket after I found out about this options, but if I got one now, this is what I would do:
Option 1: Plead no guilty and take the defered judification option. In Washington, if you don't get another ticket with-in the year, than your ticket will be drop. But if you do, then your 1 ticket will be on the record while the second ticket is on the clock. ( I think washington only)
Option 2: Find a good lawyer that deal with traffic violation only in you area. A Car salesman friend of mine introduce one to me and I have since refered him to my friends. This lawyers can usually find out what mistake the cops has done when they write you the ticket. I was surprise my friend got off the whole thing because the cop's writing was not readable.
Hope this helps.

Ummm, how about "slow down" and "stop for stop signs and red lights"?

A little history:
I got the previous speeding ticket on a trip and since someone rear-ended my car (which wasn't my fault BTW) I was in a rental. Normally I set the cruise at 8-9mph over the limit, but since this car had no cruise I got nabbed going a little too fast while I was chatting with the passenger.
This current ticket was issued on a street that had just gone from 2 lanes (each way) to 1 and basically becomes a divided highway. So considering everyone on that highway does 70mph and I was speeding up (albeit a little early -- but NO traffic was in front of me on the 'ramp') to merge in -- I don't feel I was really endangering anyone.
Later on this same drive to work some person chatting on the phone crosses the white lane marker and almost side-swipes me. I wonder who was really endangering others more this morning...
