OK guys...my car is in! I'm from the SF Bay Area and I'm flying down to LA to pick up my car - got it for MSRP! I'll be driving it back all the way - approximately 350 miles. I've heard one shouldn't break in a car with a long drive but I have no way of avoiding this. Thankfully it's straight from the factory - the dealership told me they have strict orders for no one to "test drive" my S2000 until I get there.

Anything in particular I should pay attention to on the drive back? I realize there's no "VTECing" until 600 miles, meaning no going over 6000 RPM. What else? Some have mentioned the amount of oil consumption early on - is this something I should be concerned with on such a long drive? What about varying the RPMs over the drive? Is this important?

I'd appreciate any insight you guys can provide...

Thanks in advance....I can hardly wait to drive it!

I recall the owner's manual stating not to break it in for long periods of time at the SAME RPM. Given that, make sure to vary your speeds (as much as possible) during the drive.

Welcome and enjoy the drive! I picked mine up 200 miles from my house.

I picked mine up 500 miles from home, took crappy little back roads all the way home. Just take it easy, vary your speeds and RPMs, and try not to let the crappy stereo drive you bananas...

highway 1 should allow you to vary your RPMs a tad... especially up near big sur (grin).

great to hear about the purchase! yea! just take it easy on the drive back!

I bought mine about 600 miles away. I flew over there, never test drove it, nor drove any other s2k's and signed all the papers, they opened the showroom door and off I went! It was a great experience to buy a car that way, and you won't be dissapointed!

Just take it easy, and I'm sure you won't have to do what I did....which is dodge New Mexican dust bunnies and tumbleweeds.

It does not matter how long your break in drive is. As stated numerous times already - do NOT maintain constant RPM's and/or speeds for LONG periods of time. Drive a wide variety of RPM's (below 6k) and enjoy.
