Default Advice needed on Honda Care warranty

I did a search and came up with some useful information, but a lot of it is still unclear so I'm hoping some of you can clarify it for me.

I just bought an 07 S2000 and purchased the Honda Care extended warranty. However, after reading some threads on this topic, I heard that people frequently get their claims denied due to minor modifications.

1. Is it true that Honda Care is different from the factory warrantee, in that if you do any sort of modification, a claim can be denied? I tried reading through the contract but it's hard to tell. I also heard that with the factory warrantee, Honda has to prove that the non-OEM part is the cause of the problem before they can deny the claim, whereas with Honda Care they can just straight up deny it.

2. I'm bone stock right now, but I will almost certainly put on some sort of mod within the next year, and will possibly even go FI after that. Given my situation, should I just cancel now (I would get the entire amount back), since as soon as I make a mod, the warranty is worthless? If anything should go wrong, I'm still covered for the first 36k miles via the factory warranty, right?

Thanks for the help

interesting...
I bought Honda Care and the tire and wheel warranty. They said that if I had aftermarket wheels, they would still be covered. Making sure this is true.

^^^They will tell you anything to get you to sign that paper. When I bought mine, the finance manager told me that the clutch would be covered. I checked, and it was the clutch slave cylinder...not the actual clutch. Needless to say, I did not get it.

You're not alone, I got talked into one too, and at the end of the factory warranty, if not sooner, I *want* to do things that void warranties.

Anyone know what our options are? Can we cancel them and get our money back? I certainly want to get it refunded before they deny a claim based on the clear side markers that I put on.

yes you can cancel. you will get a prorated amount back...but being that yours is an 07, you should get most, if not all back.

Yeah, I'm starting to think I was the victim of some sweet talking by the dealer too. He claimed that you could mod the car all you want and the non-modded parts would still be covered under warranty. However, he didn't seem terribly knowledgeable in other aspects (didn't even know how many hp the car had ) so I was a bit wary of everything he was telling me.

Fortunately, you can cancel within the first 60 days and get a full refund, so I think I will do that. Like others have said, as long as I take care of it, the bottom line is that it's a Honda, so it should be fine. Plus, I still have the factory warranty

So all I have to do is walk in and ask to cancel it after a year of ownership and everything should be A okay?

you should get things like that in writing. write it down yourself and have him sign it. Im suprised more people don't do this. I do it all the time, some people get weary and won't sign and then you know its BS, others will sign and you have a sweet deal.

call hondacare and tell them you want to cancel. they will mail you the form that the dealer has to sign and send back to honda. make sure you get a copy too.

when i had the tsx, they mailed me the form. i brought it to the dealer and he signed it (i can tell he didnt want to) and conveniently neglected to send it back to acura. i called up acura two weeks later to ask for status and they said they never received the cancellation letter from the dealer. I then sent them my copy and they cancelled it.

bottom line...some dealers are shady.

If you do it, don't expect the money to go back into your pocket. The money is deducted from your loan balance. Unless you paid cash for the whole thing.
