Default Advice needed regarding clutch replacement

Dealer just called me back and said that I ride the clutch hard because the clutch cover has hot spots, flywheel also has hot spots, the cover and throwout bearings need to be replacedment including the pilot bearing and the flywheel resurfaced. Now I do take it to the autox and launch at 3-5K and rarely ever hitting the rev limit in 2nd during the runs. That's the only time I would really work the car. Does anyone else have the same problem? It will cost me $543.61 to have it all fixed. Should I go aftermarket stuff since my warranty ends this month? Your advice appreciated.

Thanks

That is pretty cheap to have it all replaced. I think. I have nothing to back up that statement except other post I have read. If the car is still under warrenty then I would bitch like hell! They just don't want to do it because warrenty work does not pay worth a darn. That is my opinion.

2000 s2000's have had a techincal service buletin on thier clutches. Use the search mode to look it up. In 2nd gear on the decelration it makes a vibration that is loud. I am having my 2000 honda repaired under warrenty for free. I have 15000 mi on mine. I don't know if this helps, but you could always try another dealer and tell them it vibrates in 2nd gear when you slow down.

Thanks for the reply. The car is in for the buzzing TSB. They called and told me the problems they found. Was wondering if this is normal for my use, or do they want to make some money off me and should I get aftermarket stuff. Car only has 14K miles. And I don't do clutch dumps at the autox.

I would search the post about clutches and make your own decision. I think you will come to the conclusion that you can get it done under warranty. I would press the issue a little harder with the dealership. If you get pushback, you may want to call honda north america and see if you can get any satifaction. It is worth several hundred dollars to give it a try.

It does sound like a low price BUT i'd check the TSBs... plenty of clutch and tran work covered.

I don't launch at high revs but downshift hard in corners on the track and in mountain roads... had the same "hot spots". I have read NOT to launch at 3-5K but more at 7K... this from pretty good sources on this board. Do a search and see.
