I'm a rookie on this board and mostly I just want to thank all of you for the help you have given me. This board is, without a doubt, one of the best car boards on the net. I just hit the 1100mi mark on my silver/black 2001 and I am in love. I think the best advice I can give other rookies is that there is no need to be in a big hurry to V-tec. I made it to about 550mi and the first time was good but not great. I just got back from a spirited drive and at 1100mi the V-tec is SUBSTANTIALLY stronger! The car simply screams! The bottom line is that you might as well baby it for a while because it really doesn't give good V-tec until it loosens up a little anyway. Thanks all.

Laughing out loud.
My odometer has 1,200 miles on it. My new short block has 540 miles on it and has rarely seen 5,000 rpm.

I'm waiting and waiting....

Barry

(This car is still GREAT FUN below the VTEC transition.)

Many other owners on this site will agree the motor only gets stronger once you reach the 5K mark.

Burns almost no oil after about 4000 miles - watch the oil level before that, though.

Break her in gently.
I got my advice from a couple of F1 mechanics at Jordan-Honda. Don't VTEC before 600 miles, hit 6000 rpm after at least 600 miles then add 1000 rpm every 300 miles.
Replace your oil at 3750 miles with premium mineral oil and replace it again at 6000 miles with synthetic.

I waited until 1000 miles to VTEC it for the first time.....decided to do a more gentle break-in than recommended by Honda.

Interesting. Because I just broke the crucial 600 mile barrier last Saturday, and when I finally took the car into the VTEC range, I was actually a little disappointed to find that the jump in thrust didn't seem as dramatic as I'd expected. It seemed, in fact, less dramatic than it is in my '97 Prelude.

So I'm hopeful that this will change with additional mileage.
