Default advice on purchasing salvaged s2k

Hi, I'm new here.... I wanted to get some input from you folks here. I have an opportunity to get a wrecked S2K with what seems to be suspension and some possible undercarriage damage. From the photos, seems like he/she hit a curve and bent in suspension, mainly in the rear.

I know the S2K is an awesome handling machine. So I don't know if purchasing and fixing this one is a good idea since the suspension has been jeopardized. Also, would there be potentially large problems with the rear drivetrain being in an accident like this? Any idea what this would cost?

Hope these pics help...

Is that silver I see around the rear lights! I wonder how much I can get the top for? Hey, don't get the car, it will never run the same. Just get a 2000 for $20,000 and be through with it. Could you e-mail me the phone number of this place? nastinupe@yahoo.com. I want that top.

I wouldn't trust it. Think about this. You will have no warranty. You will have a salvaged title. The car could be a potential money pit. By the time you've spent the time and effort putting this car back together, you could have gotten a used one with low miles in the really low 20's.

Also, I'm pretty sure that they sell the parts. Look at that Camary in frot of the S2000. Who's going to salvage that POS?

Well...the obvious question should be how much are they asking?

I have a soft spot in my heart for fixing distressed cars....so if you can get it for a good price, I would do it if you plan on keeping it for a while. It is satisfying to take a car that needs help and rebuild it. The before and after and being able to say you did it is pretty cool..

I just don't like the idea of possible damage to the frame. Especially in a car where handling is the car's high point.

yea, the effects on the handling is my main concern. that's why I'm trying to get more feedback from you peeps here.

nastinupe1: I can get an 02 for low 20's? I'm 100% sure they don't part. These are insurance auctions that sell them whole.

If this was a bottom end sedan you could give it a shot, because you might not be likely to get much over the speed limit.

But the S2000 just begs for 100+ action and I guarrrrannnnnteeeee you will try to do it.

Even if the cars alignment & suspension can be made to run true, there may be hidden frame stress cracking and metal weakening.

You don't want to be there when this hidden stuff finally gives out.
Rebuild not a good idea, parts maybe.

Your thread title says, advice on purchasing a salvaged s2k. This car is not salvaged. Perhaps it is salvagable. It would take inspection by an expert to find out. If you're not an expert in repairing severely damaged cars, why would you even consider it? How much would it cost? How much do you estimate it would cost to make it whole? How much money do you have budgeted for this project? If you bought it, and then discovered the car has significant hidden damage you didn't appreciate before purchase, how badly would that set you back? These are the important questions and no stranger on an internet board can answer these questions for you.
