Default Advice to a soon to be S2K owner

I'm in the process of sorting things out so I can pick up an S2k this winter and wanted to hear from current owners what things they would suggest or wish they did sooner. I'm coming from owning a Prelude for 9 years and 170k and dont want to sink all that cash into modding again so they'll stay small on this car. I plan to tint the windows add an OEM lip and a rear spoiler (not sure which brand yet though). I was also thinking Lamin-X for the headlights and possibly a 3M bra for the front bumper cover since I plan to do about 80% of my yearly driving in the car. The plan is for an AP2 04/05, is there anything else that would really make sense for me to do once I got the car?

As for modifications, get snow tires if that 80% includes the cold months, and get a JDM convex left side mirror to help with the top-up blind spot ($50-100 just for safety there).

And know in advance that you'll have paint chips if the S stays on a paved road for more than 30 seconds, so you'll need one that had the Lamin-X on it from the start if that's what you're worried about. The factory paint on the S is awful for that.

You might want to consider waiting until spring if the car prices arent terribly different, as I've heard frequently the S2000 isn't exactly fun to drive in the white. I'd weigh out the saved payments vs. increased cost of buying a convertible in the spring and see when makes the most sense.

Well a beater is in the works for bad weather days and the super cold, however in NJ the winters are getting more and more mild every year. Convex mirrors make sense, I have the Spoon mirrors on my Prelude and when I drive a car with stock mirrors it drives me nuts so good call there. As for pricing, I've seen some crazy deals on ebay and think it should only get better right after Christmas.

I was reading about the Modifry shift beeper, is it not easy to tell what RPM the motor is at while revving high in the S2k? I had driven an AP1 and AP2 back to back but didnt really have the chance to rev them all the way up.

Just stumbled on your post and wanted to see if you were interested in my S2K. Might be selling it because I won't have room for 3 cars when I move to NJ. Currently have a 2004 Silverstone S2K with only 7,800 miles (garage kept). Have the following accessories on the car:
- 3M paint film professionally installed
- Honda Front spoiler
- CD Changer
- Countersunk shift knob
-Seat Pocket
-Honda Car Cover

Car has never been driven in rain or snow (not my daily driver). Have babied this car and all oil changes have been made @ honda dealer (have all service records) Currently in AR, but moving to central jersey within 2 months, having car shipped in closed container to NJ. Looking to get $22K. Just thought you might be interested. Email me if you are interested

Skip the Lamin-X for the headlights as it will only cause heat cracks when you use the lights.

Has this happened to someone? I've had it on my headlights for about two years without any issues, of course they're not HID projectors but I'm not sure why a thin film would cause cracks.

I love my Modifry beeper.

Come spring, try to find an Evolution School.
Get hooked up with the SCCA in your area.
Become a supporting member of S2kI.

Have fun!

My piece of advice, always check your oil(s2000's burn oil like crazy), go easy on the throttle when your turning, and dont learn how to "DRIVE" an s2000 on the road.(it might feel like a formula one car but its not).

Welcome to the community.

Oh man another Honda that burns oil, my USDM H22 was eating a quart per 1k after I hit 100k miles. My replacement JDM H22 eats about a quart every 7k which makes me feel much better. Whats the typical F22 eat in oil?

I have plenty of driving hours under my belt to know better then to get in over my head with the car. It has been a really long time since I had something RWD so that's going to be a weird learning curve again. Thanks for the concern though.
