Default AEM CAI Vs. 50$ eBay CAI

I know the whole "you get what you pay for" concept, but I'm curious to the major differences between the two.. the manufacter of the 50$ one is bomz. is it just the filter element on the cheaper one that makes it worse, if it even is worse? please discuss and enlighten me

It's kinda hard to screw up a bent pipe. However, it can be done. There are a few things to look for when buying one of the AEM style intakes. First, make sure that they have the proper pipes WELDED to the main intake to accept the large grey hose from the air pump, and the small hose from the top of the valve cover. Some of them just have some freaky rubber fitting on one side and nothing on the other.

I've seen them installed and they look fine. Ebay usually has a good selection of those around. If you look harder, you can find one for $30-$40.

the cheaper ones sometimes do not even have them.

be ware, but as for the pipe, its all the same

I helped a local install a $10 intake of ebay. In the end it looked just as good as with any brand name intake and sounds the same as well. I would imagine performance would be on par as well.

I slapped on an extra injen sticker I had from my intake and voila! Damn thing looks like the real deal:

It came with yellow hoses though and we spent another $10 at autozone for black ones.

Basically, since the Bomz is just an imitation of an AEM CAI, if you just put on a K&N filter with it you have the exact same CAI?(performance and sound wise)

Just get an actual picture of the product to make sure the inlets are correct, or buy one from a vendor that someone on this site can vouch for to ensure that there won't be any hassles installing.

I've read on this site about the headaches that some of the cheapo CAI's can cause, but on the other-hand, some have better filters and silicone hoses.
