I've been reading a lot about accidents recently with the S2000. I'm curious as to what the age category is of the owners who are involved.

I'm not helping your poll since I've not [yet] wrecked my one-week-old-to-me '01 Spa...but your question makes me feel a titch better! I've become damn near paranoid that this car can't handle anything but desert, arid climates. ANY moisture, and its a bobsled or something. Now I *know* I've managed to push some buttons on this car......all within a state of control that I'm comfortable with. And not once has it gotten away from me. However, our forums have left me sure that I'm just one corner away from meeting a tree, or a car, or a guardrail, etc.

At 36 and with [most] of my juvenile tendancies behind me... I'd like to think I'm a little more serious now about my enthusiasm for driving.

well put. my '02 S2 is on order. i'm a driving school student from way back and this forum (some people) have made me believe i have just signed the bottom line for a car that is uncontrollable, unpredictable and in general as safe as a razor blade running across my wrist.

I see a trend forming in the poll............

BTW I am 35 and trashed my car with 400 miles on it b/c of my ignorance.

I purchased my car in Nov. 99 and on a cold and damp December morning went into a corner too hot and "snap" spun around ended up jumping a curb and thru a horse fence<driver error> new front bumper all is well for 20k miles since. Lesson learned

Yes, I too feel a bit better after seeing the poll. I have an S2K on order to be picked up in December and the recent series of crashes were making me a bit nervous, especially the ones that read something like this: I was doing 12mph in a 60mph zone on a straightaway singing along to my favorite Stones tune and all of a sudden the car spun 3 times, whacked the guardrail, hood popped open, steering wheel came off in my hands, etc.

I was starting to think that the only way to enjoy this car was to drive it so slowly that I'd be passed by kids on skateboards.

No disrepect intended to anyone who was in a crash but there just had to be other contributing factors at play as well: damp roadway, wet leaves, reaching for the mobile phone, sudden throttle change while changing radius, etc. At least I hope that's the case and that I will not have to post a similar "wrecked my S2K today" anytime soon.

Given the fact that 3 or 4 cars just from members of this board will be "totaled" from accidents over the past few weeks, we'll all have to watch the insurance rating for the S2K. When I compared the rates for the S2K vs. the TTQR (hey, I had to look at it...I drive an S4!), I was really surprised that the Audi was more expensive to insure even with side airbags, AWD, and traction control. A few more major S2K accidents given the relatively small number of vehicles and our rates will rise quickly.

ive had two accidents...one in the silver S2000 (traded) and one in my yellow i have right now. Both involving corners. Now i just drive slow through corners. The rear tires are way more worn than the front ones....time for new tires and i only have 10 thousand miles on my 01. The first accident was going through a slight curve with very cold tires and very warm engine (warmed up while talking with some people) not too smart shifting near red while taking any kind of turn....even slight ones. The second one was not a very sharp curve but the road was wet. I was in 3rd gear at around 4 RPM. Not even gunning it. Lesson i learned through both of these accidents was that when you realized that youre fish-tailing going out of control just keep your foot nailed on the throttle and straighten it out...it was hard for me because my instinct told me to slam on the brakes....thats why both of my accidents turned out the same way and i think most Stooks got slammed on the right side cuz of a 180 spin or depending on the speed...but i think in most accidents cars spin counter-clockwise.

i think those age groups are a rather large range...18-29 is like a night and day difference
