Too many folks buy this car for the wrong reasons. If you want a drag car or something that you can loaf the engine at 2k rpm, this is the wrong car. If you want a luxo-cruiser or room to have sex in, this is the wrong car. If you want a large go-kart or a car that willingly asks "How much, sir" to your request for more speed through a turn, this IS your car. I bought mine with the full expectation that it was a driver's car and I got exactly what I wanted.

More power/torque? Folks with Vipers are upgrading theirs for more. There's never "enough." I'll take mine as it is and show my tail lights to those who want to stay up with me. I like to DRIVE and this is the perfect car for that.
Well said.

Trade your S for a 350Z. Then you'll have plenty of torque.

You bitch alot about the S2000 engine. Are you sure you bought the right car for you?
I agree with the comment 100%.

I absolutely love the S2000 for exactly what it is (pre04 and 04 combined). I also love cars that have a lot of torque like my friend's 330i.

Part of me gets all caught up in which car is the best. The fact is, there are so many different ways to compare two cars that it is almost impossible to determine which car is THE car to have. For instance, for $30k I'd probably get a Mustang if I wanted to take off in a straight line. For the curves it's the S2000. That's is why the S2000 is for ME. But we still continue to see feuds between those that think each other's decision was stupid.

Another point... it all depends on what you come from... I currently drive a '98 Civic Ex coupe 5-speed. Getting in my girlfriend's '00 Si makes after driving my car daily makes hers seem very VERY sporty (and I have to say it is an impressive car in its own right). However, the S2000 from my car is simply amazing, both in handling (duh) and straight line power. But coming from a Mustang??? Come-on.

You get what you pay for. Can you think of another car that has the high revs of the S2000 but the low-down torque that you seek? The only one that comes to mind is Ferrari... and I don't think you'll find one of those in the $30K price range.
I partly agree and I partly disagree with this comment.

Yes, comparing the S2000 with a Ferrari, you do get what you pay for with respect to performance and craftsmanship. I would have to also say you get a LOT of value for your buck with an S2000 as far as performance, craftsmanship, and reliability, though.

I also agree that (other than a Ferrari) you're not going to find an engine that revs as high as an S, yet has impressive torque at low RPMs. IT'S THE NATURE OF A HIGH STRUNG FOUR-CYLINDER!!! AND, it is what makes the S2000 an S2000.

Which brings me to where I disagree. I do not agree (within the appropriate class including the S2000, Z3/4, Boxter, etc.) that you get what you pay for with respect to performance. I think the S2000 is every bit a contender (if not more) compared to the competition with much higher price tags. I think the craftsmanship and reliability is as good if not better. I would suggest that the S may not have as many frills and may not offer nameplate that is as prestigous. But it is definately a huge contender within the class.

Again, it comes down to the nature of the car. Honda, builds remarkably small, powerful (for their size), reliable, fuel efficient engines. The S2000 showcases probably one of their best production engines to date, while still maintaining the talents that Honda is most known for. Yes it is different than a BMW or a Porsche, but that's the nature of the car. Maybe it's not for you.

P.S.
Sorry mxt_77! I wasn't trying to pick on you by quoting your posts only. Just adding to your thoughts with my agreement that the S2000 is not for some people.

It's weird to me that you would really like the car except for the engine. I love my car, and when I think about my favorite part of it, it's the engine. I traded a '98 BMW M3 for my '02 S2000, and I have absolutely no regrets about this car. The M3 was about as quick, had gobs of torque, and would cruise very comfortably 90+mph carrying a whole family and lots of stuff in the trunk.
Unfortunately once I got used to the power, I didn't really feel I was driving per se. The S2000 I am always driving. If I'm not paying attention, some launches in the S are pretty unspectacular, but with proper technique and a little attention, I can get off the line pretty darn quick. Torque doesn't feel as much as the M3, but even so I notice the seatbacks reclining more and more as the rpms go up, so obviously I'm being put back in the seat, just not as violently.

Dump the guy for a girl, and maybe it will feel quicker? And I have to echo that other guy--this car has an air conditioner?

If all these heavy, whiny Americans keep complaining about the lack of torque in the S2000, Honda is going to increase the displacement and lower the redline and change the character of the car...

Oh, wait, they already did that. Maybe nastinupe needs to buy an '04!
