Default Airbag Deactivation?

I'm under the impression that beginning in 02, new cars sold in the US must have a manual airbag deactivation switch. Is that correct and does the my02 have such a switch?

Not true. Most bags are softer/slower deploy now so it is less of an issue. Notice how it sort of went away. What really changed was the hype. I studied this issue carefully in '98. Virtually all child deaths were unbelted children and Chrysler minivans. It was mostly hype, just like speed kills and road rage and, of course, the red light running epidemic.
