All metal shift knobs
I keep 2 shift knobs in the car: a Voodoo and a Spoon Titanium. I use the Voodoo when I feel like driving the car hard and keep the Spoon knob on when it is super hot or cold out - in both of these conditions the Spoon knob either cools or heats to the touch.
I just so happen to have a brand new Spoon Ti Version 2 knob not being used that I could sell you.
This is what it looks like:

and to give you an idea of how hollow it is (for heat and cold dispensing):

You can change shift knobs out at any red light - if you don't use that huge OEM thingy. A Voodoo knob can be found for around $40 on Rick's site. I'm not sure what the Spoon Knobs go for - I originally purchased mine almost a year ago.
Both of these are counter-sunk, so you will feel a difference in throws as compared to that long (as to where it sits) stock knob.

I have the OEM Ti knob, and I really like it. Folks with the Voodoo -- countersunk to be lower than stock -- love those (as the other posters should make obvious).
I keep my stock knob ('02 leather-wrapped) on my office computer table. Keeps my mind on the road (where it belongs
