went to visit a friend in fort worth over the weekend at a chevy dealership. there was a guy their buying a new convertible red 'vette.
he was talking about the porsche 911 turbo he just ordered. he didn't know any of the stats, so i filled him in. high 11 in the 1/4. he also was raving over his new lil' boxster S. then i told him 'hey we need to race around may'. i told him what i'm getting, and be began to rag on the s2000.
i told him the stats and he just said 'hmm.. no' NO!.. what the hell do you mean no! didn't say that.. he was a customer.. didn't want my friend getting in trouble. just said 'ok, well hope i run into you around may' guess he just refused to believe a porche could be matched by a honda.
i can't stand people like this.
he was buying the 'vette to 'drive around a little then give to his son' must be nice.

This guy is a label snob, not a car snob. I'm sure he's like that with everything. He's a collector of labeled goods and not a sportscar enthusiast, that's obvious. An enthusiast would certainly know something about what he drives.
I've talked to many sportscar owners that are very into their cars. Typicially they are rather quiet until you mention cars, then lookout! You can't shut them up.
I'm sure there are a good number of Porsche owners that drive them for the performance and not the name. You can tell a label snob by their brand loyalty. To them, the name on the hood is more important than what's under it. Sound familiar?
Just for fun, how many Honda snobs are there? Who would NOT have bought the S2000 if it were made by say, Nissan?
I bought the car because of the car. What dealer I was standing in was not terribly relevent to my decision. I wanted a convertible that was a blast to drive and a little rare (even if only for a little while). I had several cars I was considering and bought the S2000 on the spot after test driving it. It was exactly what I was looking for!

Really, how many of us would've bought the S if it was a Ford?
(granted Ford will never make anything like the S in a million year.)

If it were a Nissan or Toyota, I'd have bought it because I LOVE the car. I agree, Ford never would have come out with something like this!

I have found that at all the various car events I did with Scarlet this year that the older (read: air-cooled) Porsche drivers are some of the nicest car folks you could ever meet...always have been supportive and highly complimentary. Now, the younger Boxster (read: water cooler) owners have been different, in my experience. With a few exceptions, they are as you described.
I found it very interesting that there was a real rift between the air/water cooled guys. Many of the air cooled guys do not consider the Boxster a "real" Porsche...even though all Porsches are water cooled now, I have talked with a lot of Porsche purists.

I bought the S2000 BECAUSE it was a Honda or more precisely because it was a rear drive roadster made by Honda.
I have respected Honda as a company and Sochiro Honda as a man for many years. I have owned mostly Honda Motorcycles all my life. I root for Hondas on the racetracks of the world. Porsche and Ferrari are also brands I respect like Honda because of their 50 years of racing heritage. Honda today, can do ANYTHING that is possible to be done by an automotive company and pretty much do it better than anyone else. Their R&D is second to none and along with automotive breakthroughs they also have designed the most advanced robots in the world. Hell they are even building Jet airplanes!
About Ford, you may remember them for such cars as the AC Cobra, the GT-40, and the Shelby Mustang GT-350 and GT-500.
I would be proud to own ANY of those today.
