Default Almost bought an S2000

so i went shopping for a new car today, and almost bought an S2000, test drove 1 but the price was too high then went to another dealer and suprise!

the S2000 was in their repair shop because the roof had been slashed and the seats had been stolen!, the previous owner traded it in because the seats had been stolen twice from him! and he was frustrated.

even with seat locks they still slash your roof and take whatever they can..

long story short, no S2000 for me until i have a house with a garage ...sad really

Get a hardtop with a alarm + Lowjack, so far after moving from a house with garage to a apartment, I've had no problem with slash top. The only problem I've had is being keyed when I have to fight for parking space Get the s2k!!!!!

Best reason to not put the top up!!!

Seriously where are these cars that this happens to ? I have read here it happens in Florida a lot but its not that common.

I keep the top down on my car for months at a time, park it anywhere I drive it and top down. I have left it at LAX for the week (in a covered lot in case of rain) a few times now, I have driven it to L.A. and left it on the street, parked it in lots. Left it in parking lots at Yosemite (once for 3 days while hiking), top is always down on my car and always has been.

I will admit to sometimes worrying about it but I still leave it top down.

Maybe it comes from being a convertible guy, I have owned only convertibles since 1974, never owned anything else and I can go months without putting the top up and I hate the winter when it rains too hard to leave the top down.

I would think leaving the top down would be an "attractive nuisance" for haters, but I suppose it at least gives the impression that you only stepped out for a moment and will be right back.

I think any S2000 parked in a non-gated apartment complex or rougher neighborhood is going to be an obvious target for this kind of thing. Apartment complexes have tons of people coming and going, cars left unattended all night, and no one gives a flying crap about their neighbors or what kind of people they bring around. Pretty much impossible to avoid "unsavory" people in an apartment complex, no matter how much you spend on rent.

As for me, I live out of city limits these days and keep it tucked around the corner of the driveway, under a beige (and locked) car cover, and blocked in by the Accord.

Where do you live? I have heard horror stories, but never had an issue when I had my S (and I parked it outside).

I wouldn't let fear of seats being stolen stop me from getting a car I loved. If you have full coverage when you are protected.
