Default Almost saw a thinning of the herd today...

On my way to work I see my neighbor and a friend underneath his car in the driveway. They are using a scissor jack with no jack stands on a slightly sloped driveway... and the damn thing is rocking everytime he tightens something. I let them borrow my 3.5 ton jack and jack stands. What an idiot. He's seen me a million times with my car on all four jack stands and never realized they were "important."

I wouldn't use a scissor jack to change a flat tire...

Kudos to you for helping them out.

I use scissor jacks to change a tire on a flat surface. No biggie. But not when I'm underneath it.

When I had my first car, many of my frineds never used real jacks and just used scissors. This was dumb cause I was into cars since I was 13 so when the import trend was coming around I poicked up a lot of stuff, good and bad. The jack was a bad thing cause one time I guess the scissor jack was fatigued already from countless uses and while I was changing a tire and about to go under for something, the stupid thing gave way and bent sideways, it almost fell completely, but even that bend lowered the car back to 3-4 inches off the ground, enough to crush or at the very least pin me for a painful wait and maybe death depending how far I got under. At least you didn't stand back and say what a bunch of idiots and actually helped.

"Natural Selection" is a good thing and should be allowed to work.

However, you did the right thing because you kept the manufacturer of the jack, the manufacturer of the car, perhaps the builder of the house with the sloped driveway, and god only knows who else from having to defend themselves in a lawsuit alleging that it was their fault that your neighbor is a dumbass.

What pisses me off is that I still don't have my stuff back and I know they are home.

Good looks, you may have saved him. When my father was 18, his neighbor was under his vette and squish, it fell on him. Since the vette was so low, he was crushed to death and his wife was the one who found him dead.

Ubetit,

Let me put it into perspective. I think you are Ned Flanders they are Homer Simpson. Did Homer ever give anything back to Ned that he borrowed?
