Almost wrecked my S tonight!!
Was driving around tonight, breaking in the new transmission/diff. Both were replaced under warranty. John Eagle had it 5 weeks and the transmission was really tight. (Starting to loosen up now!
). Cruising down Allen Parkway (the closest thing Houston has to a "twistie"
) feeling pretty good about the car. Well...
It takes me all of about 30 seconds to get on Allen Parkway from my house so I had to wait a few seconds for 3 bars and V-TEC heaven. 20 seconds later, I am on it like white on rice.
The first series of turns are some soft "S"s with nice 12 foot tall concrete wall barriers so I didn't want to hit those. So I was taking it easy. Only hit 75 mph or so...but then the fun began.
After the first "S"s there is a nice left hand sweeper followed by an even longer right hand sweeper that leads to a light. Made it through there with little effort at about 90 mph. Everything was nice and tight and shifting was getting better. At the exit of the last turn, the light was green so I decided to really open her up. There is a long straight followed by a medium right/left combo to another straight. I usually push this at 90+ after breaking from the straight so I thought 115mph should work. Well, it didn't. Entering the first turn a little late, I was concerned about getting to the left edge for the fast approaching left. I let off the gas for just a moment and the back end just "snapped" (where have I heard the before?) around and I did a complete 360 at about 115 mph!!
Didn't hit anything but man...that'll make your heart flap like a bumble bee on Coke! Took it down a few notches after that! Drove home and kissed the ground...
Now...what happened?? I was only going close to 5 times the posted speed limit. I only let off the gas for a second. It had only just started to rain. I had only been on the road for all of 2 minutes. It was only 35 degrees outside. I mean...really???

P.S. - If one more person post about "snap oversteer" I am going to snap!!
P.S.S. - In case you missed it, I was trying illustrate the absurd by being absurd myself.
P.S.S.S. - In case you still don't get it, I made up the entire story although it is an accurate description of the road.

My point is not so much to ridicule those who have had the misfortune of spinning. My point is that this car will do what you ask it to do within the laws of physics. That's right, even the laws of physics apply to the S2000.
