Default Amsoil---is it that good

So I meet this guy at a party who finds out i race cars and he wips out his Amsoil card. Then he sends me alot of test results comparing Amsoil synthetics to all the rest of the oils out there. His oil did best in the fourball test, the NOACK test, the base # test, thehi temp/hi shear test etc.etc.etc. And he says its cheaper than Mobil one-which is what i currently use. Is there anything to all this? I told him I would let him put his name on my car in exchange for his oil but he hasnt gotten back to me on that yet.

I'm not an oil guru like others in here, but my understanding is that Amsoil is a "true" synthetic, so yes it's supposed to be good. I don't know if it is any better than Motul or Redline though. I believe they're all in the same tier. I also believe that Mobil 1 makes a very good synthetic oil as well. In fact, while I have Redline in my car now, Mobil 1 is a lot cheaper and plan on switching over to that for my next fill.

But if you can get Amsoil for free from this guy, definitely use it.

Road Rage, the in house Oil guru on s2ki, has done a bunch of tests and amsoil came out top by a good margin in every one. He didn't include Redline however, but I think its safe to say Amsoil IS better than mobil 1.

I was looking through the s2ki oil journals and saw that amsoil topped all the lists. For the only production car that goes 9k all day long, the best oil is the only way to feed it for only a few dollars more per change.

Keep in mind, those tests WERE conducted by Amsoil. I trust RR's judgement, but it's always good to know the whole story.

I'm sure Amsoil is a very good oil, in any case.

I've seen some independent tests that came to the same conclusion.. amsoil > mobil 1

I use Amsoil in our race karts. On tear downs on our four strokes on alcohol the internals all look very good.
