Default Another new s2k owner!!!

Hello all, just got an 03 suzuka blue about a week ago and i really love it as well. I've driven many cars recently, and i must say i'm truely amazed at how much power is extracted from this magical 2.0 masterpiece. I still feel really guilty about vtech-ing it about 10 times the first night (felt like an 11 year old discovering the sausage for the first time) but then drove it like grandma up 620 miles or so. No big deal right??? I know it sounds silly. Thanks.

It's not silly to go into VTEC before 600 miles. It's crazy!!! I could see someone accidentally doing that... but on purpose. Didn't you read your manual about not going over 5500 RPM before 600 miles? Time will tell if yu harmed the engine or not. Make sure you frequently check your oil level. By VTECing so sood, you may have used up a lot of oil. Try to show a little restraint and treat your Suzuka properly and she'll treat you well (I hope).

I think you'll be fine. I mean it's real hard to stay under 5600rpm. I think a lot of people have gone into VTEC before the breakin is over. I mean 6600 or 7000 rpm. I don't think it would be wise to redline this or any engine when it's so new but going a little beyond 5600 I think is no big deal. One thing I'd say is to be sure the car is warmed up before VTEC-ing it even after it's broken in, the warm oil should do a better job of protecting the engine.

Enjoy your car, and check the oil often.

This engine makes more horsepower per litre than any naturally aspirated (no supercharger or turbo) engine, ever made. It is quite the hi-tec piece of equipment. before it self destructs, you should spend a day at this site and do some searches on "engine break in", "blown engines", "#4 cyl falure", "oil jets", and the like. Hope your car is good to you. Best of luck.

Thanks for your input everyone. Do you think it would be wise to change the oil before the recommended oil change? I only ask because i hear so many different stories. And one more thing...the psi in my tires is at 30 (cold)--the manual says 32 for normal driving. Would 35 psi improve handling? throw it off? or what??? Thanks!!

Mr.Frank, experiment with the tire pressure, a little change can yield big differences in feel, imo. Where you're at now should produce a softer ride but at the expense of some handling. Most owners seem to run it higher (@33-35psi cold). The ride can be a bit more jarring but that *on rails* handling really shines.

Thanks Bash! I was suspecting that increased pressure would improve handling. Thanks.

Mr.Frank

I've been running my S-02s at 34 cold and have been pretty happy with the ride/handling.

Do not change oil before 3750 miles. I've even been told that by Honda techs. No synthetic oil before 10,000 miles.
