Another Oil question........

Just hang wit me for a sec!
I'm at just over 3K on odo. and I've used a quart. The first topping up was done with Mobil in a Green bottle but not Mobile 1 in the silver bottle. It was conventional motor oil and cheap to boot.
I picked up another quart last night at PEP Boys and this is in a silver bottle and says Mobile 1...not so cheap. My question is this. It is a "Tri-Synthetic" blend and has an SJ rating. It says it's "compatible" with conventional motor oil.
Will I have a problem if I top of with this since it's not a full synthetic and is compatible with conventional?
I'm not having any luck finding Mobil 1 that doesn't have some reference to Synthetic on the bottle.

Your problem is that you are looking for Mobil 1 that's not synthetic. The "1" in Mobil is a reference to Mobil's synthetic oil line I do believe. If you want non-synthetic, you will have to use Mobil not Mobil 1.

I believe the general consensus is that you don't use the synthetic until the 7500 oil change. Also, don't forget to change the filter. The Honda schedule doesn't call that out, but it makes sense to always change the filter when you change the oil.

To amplify on 1Y2KS2K's comment, others have said to hold off on switching to synthetic until the car uses no oil, as synthetic may not allow seals to seat as quickly. Makes sense to me, and that point is after the second oil change for many... i'm at just over 5k and still using some, so I'll wait a bit...

Mack, I can't imagine that filling with a synth will cause any problems...but if you would feel more comfy with doing so with dino oil, go for it.
And moreover, there are two synth varieties of Mobil 1. There is a purely synthetic one that we all know and love and one that is a synthetic blend. The bottles look very similar, but the synth blend is about 1/2 the cost of the fully synthetic, I believe.
But for filling before your first change, running a quart low will cause more damage than putting a synth in, IMO.
