That's tragic! I am not sure the post title is appropriate.

 

Yeah, that's a bit harsh. I got caught in a torrential downpour on the interstate last month in my S2000. I went 35 mph in the right lane with flashers and was terrified. These cars scare me in when standing water may be lurking. Plus being so small with semi trucks blowing past doesn't help. Sad to hear about this driver.

Investigation into Fatal Crash at 6800 Southwest Freeway

June 5, 2017 - Houston police are investigating the fatal crash that occurred at 6800 Southwest Freeway (South U.S. Highway 59) at 12.55 a.m. on Sunday.

The identity of the victim, 31, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant P. Kopulos and Office E. Clark reported:

The victim was driving a Honda S2000 at a high rate of speed southbound on the Southwest Freeway service road and failed to maintain a single lane. The driver lost control of the vehicle, possibly due to the wet conditions on the roads or, according to one witness, to avoid a vehicle exiting a parking lot. The vehicle then struck a light pole and the guardrail of the freeway. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

The investigation is continuing.

 

I'm pretty sure I saw this on Facebook, if it's the same car it was completely "stanced-out" and had basically no rubber on the ground. Add rain and you get wrecks.

 

I had a very scary experience once in the rain when I hydroplaned and lost it at about 65-70 MPH on the interstate highway. It all turned out fine - I hit nothing and suffered no damage or injury - but it sure got my heart pumping pretty hard. It was my fault in the sense that I was going too fast with cruise control on. Stupid. Ever since then I am very careful in the wet with my S.

As far as the original post - shouldn't we all be more concerned about the family of the driver than we are about the car? Just saying.

 

I was stupid. First time mountain road noisy conditions decided run AP1 OEM settings and got wet. Blessed we walked away. Sally declared totaled, small side ventricle geared out tears.

There aren't many S2000's around here, but one of them is an AP1 owned by a lady who has daily driven it since new. Last time I talk to her last year it had 220k miles and no unscheduled maintenance, but that's another story. She told me about a time when she got caught in the rain and spun out off the interstate into a field and managed not to hit anything. Luckily no damage but it just reinforces how careful you have to be.
