Default another reason to get 4.57 gears

Lately with gas prices going up, I have found myself shifting into 6th gear even at speeds as low as 30-35mph.

I can be cruising along at 35mph, and what's nice is, if I need a little speed I just give it some gas. The engine doesn't lug since the gears help with the bottom end as well.

My mileage, on average, before the gears was roughtly 23mpg. This includes my daily driving and every day driving, etc. It's a mixture of highway and city.

Now, my mileage, (and yes i still vtec it at times), is about 27mpg. Not a huge increase, but it's pretty significant. Over the summer, with my spirited driving, I was getting about 25mpg. But now, with me shifting to 6th sooner than I realized I could, I'm up to 27.

FWIW, if anyone is looking for more reasons to get 4.57 gears.

Did u adjust your speedo? (w/ yellow box)

If not, then you would be getting "better mileage" anyways

I'm not going to start another shit throwing fest over gears because i think this forum has already seen enough, but gears will only help your city gas mileage, and only if they change your shifting patterns in such a way as to keep the engine at an average lower RPM. for 95% of the population gears will hurt, not help, your gas mileage. If you want this "advantage" of gears wisconsin talks about, just be conscious about being in the highest gear that doesn't lug the engine as much as possible.

My experience with the 4.57's exactly matches Wisconsin S2k's. I can cruise to work on the 45mph secondary roads in 6th and pickup a few mpg's. The last two 'all highway' tanks I managed 29.9 and 29.7 while running 80-85ish with the top up and the AC on. The best I ever got (before the gears) was 33mpg with the hardtop on.
