Yes. I'm navigating the permitting quagmire at the moment.

I did. All my firearms were in a fire resistant safe, and nothing survived. Sure, a lot still looked like firearms, but since the paper that was also in the safe self-ignited, that means the safe got hot enough to blow past the hardening, so I wouldn't run rounds through them. On top of that, all the internal springs are probably all toast, so they probably won't cycle correctly if I was willing to run rounds through.

This is something that I knew about for a while. Unless you need heavy equipment to install something, nothing is truly fireproof. Fire resistant, sure. But what consumer-level fire containers really give you is time. That's why they all have time ratings on them. It assumes that somebody is trying to put the fire out. But with the Eaton Fire, they were concentrating on limiting spread, not extinguishing fires, as there were thousands of structures on fire at the same time.

I couldn't open the safe. Not only because all the external hardware melted off. That wasn't a problem as I always indexed my dial, and I had enough muscle memory to consider spinning the shaft through the combination with vice-grips. But it didn't budge. The internal mechanism had completely melted. So I drilled through the back of the safe.

This is doubly sad. Nature rules over everything.

I'm glad you and your family are okay.
