Default Another SHIFT KNOB PROB

ok guys,

I recently bought a 01 s2k
I did my search and all that on how to remove shift knob.
After reading few posts, ok this is Easy and I go to my car and there is
no lock nut under the shift knob.

Did the 00 - 01 model not come with one?
Or is it the one that I see but the shift knob was for some reason
so tightly on there (crooked) that it is now in the same level as the
lock nut and I just can't get to it any more??

I see (sort of) and feel the black thing under the knob but there is no way to
get to it because they are just lined up.

any advice??

All model years have a locking nut on the bottom. However some people remove the locking nut to get their OEM shift knob an extra inch lower. But in doing so, to line up the shift pattern, they would have to use locktite on the threads to insure that the shift pattern lines up and it stays that way. The draw back is its a bitch to remove if they used a lot of the product, or if they used the red one.

However if you posted up a picture we could tell you if there is a lock nut still under there.

Is it the OEM shift knob or aftermarket? All s2000s come with lock nuts

I don't think its possible for it to be level to be honest. Unless they used an aftermarket lock nut...cause the OEM is like an inch or so thick.

If the person used an aftermarket nut its possible. See if you can get an openended box wrench under there or some needle nose pliers to hold the nut securely while you try to turn the knob.

sounds like they put the locknut upside down.. Mine was like that as well (the put locktite on there as well), I ended up buying another shift lever -- they are not expensive

I had to cut the shift boot to get the center console off and then pulled out the shifter and put the new one in (follow the shifter re grease DIY for instructions). I put a new t1r shift boot and moddiction knob on and it was definitely worth the hassle!

Here's what you do:

There is a knob made for the S on RickS2K.com called Team Voodoo. It's countersunk so it's lower, and you don't need the nut. It's about $40 but it's well worth it because it makes your shifts feel much shorter. If you want OEM then you want OEM, but I would definitely check this knob out. I had it and loved it.

actually, the moddiction knob for 60 is way better than the voodoo. I also hate the extra inch at the base of the voodoo, whereas the moddiction knob is perfectly spherical

the weight of the moddiction makes it worth the extra price
