I have a 2001. When the tranny is cold, it sometimes lurches slightly when going from neutral to 1st. Once it's in first it doesn't move forward at all. It's also noticably "notchy" until it warms up. After about 10 minutes of driving the tranny seems to be warmed up and happy--very smooth through all the gears.
It's done this since I got the car in late February. I've always attributed it to the assumption that the transmission just wasn't at it's optimum operational temperature, but after reading all the posts about transmission/clutch problems I'm not so sure.

No syncro's in first applies to 40 year old British car's, not S2000s.
Any progress to report?
My 2001 occasionally lurches forward when going from neutral to 1st, even when the car is warmed up. It has been this way since new and I thought perhaps it was a characteristic of this car. I do not experience problems shifting when cold. The transmission is notchy from 1st to 2nd and sometimes from 2nd to 3rd. I have 9000 miles and it isn't getting any better but not any worse. Is it possible that the springs in the pressure plate are weak preventing the clutch from fully engaging. Could this the problem that is causing the lurching and the notchiness? Just a thought. I have years of experiencing driving manual transmissions so we can rule out driver error and I do not abuse the clutch. Despite the occasional notchiness and lurching I still love the short throws of the transmission. I have learned to deal with its temperment but I hope that it does not get progressively worse over time.
