Default Antifreeze

I need to add some antifreeze to my 02 S. I only have just under 15K on it and just put it back on the road. The manual says to only use Honda Antifreeze. Is this necesary? Or is Honda just using scare tactics. They say you will ruin the engine using anything else. I apologize for the stupid question, but would appreciate knowledgable feedback. Thanks for your help.

Why do you need to add antifreeze to your car btw? Is the resevoir low when the engine is hot?

My resevoir is getting low. Thanks again for the input. Just glad I checked before I added some other stuff. I have like 3 different kinds of antifreeze now and soon to have another. Not worth saving a couple bucks. I just hate visiting the dealer. They suck!

So, what is so special about Honda OEM antifreeze? Does anybody know anything about it besides the fact that it is recommended by the manufacturer?

The type II anti freeze from Honda supposedly won't break down as fast as other anti freeze. I know of several mechanics that will even use it on non-Honda cars. When I got my 00, it had the type I, and it was stated several times during my research online and by service tech's that I must fluch the entire system 3-4 times before adding the type II. It must be some serious stuff.

I would just use Honda OEM. I mean, it's not like there are really superior ones out there anyway ...

Well I got a gal of Type 2 from the dealer yesterday. $12 already 50/50 mix. The guy gave it to me free. Guess there are more advantages to owning an S2000 other than driving it. I'm confussed though. The antifreeze in my resevoir was green and this stuff is blue. I have never added any before. Anyone know what is up. My "S" is an 02 and they say to use Type II to in the manual. I am confussed.
