I have recently seen both newspaper articles and TV news articles on the new wave of thefts of HID lamps. It seems that just the bulbs themselves are very valuable, and thieves will completely destroy front bumper et al to yank out these lights, often causing $5000 or more damage to get a few hundred dollars worth of the bulbs. Has anyone here been a victim? I find myself hoping that perhaps we have a non standard type of Xenon bulb and are less vulnerable to the thefts.
People who destroy the front end of a car to steal a couple of bulbs deserve a special place in Hell. Perhaps, so does EBay, which is claimed to be the major source for offloading by sale to 'innocent' purchasers.

 

Last Friday, Xenon bulbs were stolen from two 2002 Nissan Maximas in the parking lot where I work. Building security did not see anything. One of the owners reported $4000 worth of damage to their car.

This was one of the few parking lots where I would leave my S2000, and now I am uneasy about parking it there as well.
