Just wondering if anybody here has traded their S2000 for another used S2000 at a Honda dealership? I found a really cheap Silverstone S2 at a local dealership and i would def. like to trade my Berlina Black S2 for that one... do you guys happen to know what the procedure is in trading a car? Would i have to re apply for antoher loan w/ Honda of America? Before i call the dealership i would rather hear what you guys did when you traded your car in... is it a big hassle?

I looked into it. Be prepared to get raped. I looked into trading in an '01 with 20k on it for an '00 with 40k on it. They wanted $5k for the trade. I laughed in their faces and left. I couldn't believe they expected me to shell out that kind of cash for a "more" used car.

No doubt. I could see if you wanted to trade an old(er) model in for a brand new one, but even then you'll still get a shitty deal on the trade-in.

Go to the dealer and see how much the trade is going to cost you. The loan shouldn't be a problem. Once you know what the trade in price will be you'll have an idea weather you should try and sell your car outright or trade it in. You'll save tax $ on the trade in value of your car.

Well, it is up to you but you never get as good of a deal as if you sell your car locally then trading it in. You could probably get $5k more selling it then trading it in.

It works something like this in NY:
Say they are going to allow you $20K for your car twards another.
If sales tax is 8% you save $1600 on purchase of next car.
In this case if you could sell your car for anything over $18.5k you come out ahead.

I just did this on Friday...

Traded in my '02 with paintwork and 16,467 miles on it for another '02 that was all original with 4139 miles on it. I wouldn't know about the loan, as I wrote a check for my original S2k in the first place, but I ended up putting the $2802 difference on my credit card (just because it was easier than writing a check at the time -- it'll still get paid off when the statement comes).

Total time in and out of the dealership including all of the paperwork was MAYBE an hour. Very simple and hassle-free.
