i think hes talking about shifting up a gear not down a gear. ie: 4th then to 6th.

I spoke to one of my friends about this before, hes a track whore and he said that while it is ok to do this you will eventually wear things out. its better to run through all your gears but if you do skip a gear make sure the rpm once you hit 6th isnt to low like below 2k, he said keep em around 3.5k or of normal crusing rpms so the tranny dosent struggle.

I paid for six forward gears and I'm gonna use all of them...often.

Enough of the smart-ass. I think Viper posted a good response to this type of question some time ago; bottom line was that skipping gears is very hard on the synchros.

skipping gears while down shifting is not a great idea either. It puts extra stress on the input side of the tranny (and probably the synchros too). I will explain if you want.
