Nope. You're the first.

Going through a body shop directly might be better than going through a dealer. Ask around for pricing.

I was rear-ended later last summer in my 07' GPW....

The impact via 00 Ford Explorer was <5mph and the damage was quite evident. Scuffs on the bumper, cracking in the license plate area, and obvious bumper misalignment. The driver who rear-ended me was insured via Allstate, and I was surprised to no avail, that if I wanted to get my car fixed - I had to drive to one of their estimate centers to have the damage looked at!

The rather ill mannered, uneducated estimator said the "new" bumper was to be in the ballpark of $500 painted and installed for my "civic". I'd asked him to assure me the parts used on the car would be new....and he agreed thusly.

After leaving, I

They tried to pull the same stunt on me. I told them that I will take it to my local Honda collision center, and until they get the job done, I will take out a rental car that they (Allstate, the other persons insurance carrier) will pay for, as my s2k would be in a storage garage that I told them they would also pay for.

Their changed attitudes quickly.

SImilar experience on my wife's old 02 civic. Was bought new, and with only having it 3 months it was backed into (in a driveway).

Estimate from Jay Honda (they suck) in CLeveland was 1100. After 3 months, MetLife spent over 11,000 on the repair to make it "right", all while providing her with a rental freeof charge.

Bodyshops just flat out suck, provide bad work, and thrive on people who do not know any better.

Hmm i had Progressive when I got rear ended, and they came to MY house to look at the car, got an estimate, told me to get it fixed, and send them the bill and they would deal with the other insurance company. I took it in to a local shop that does custom jobs on speed boats, and lambo's. Ended up being 1300 for new bumper, paint, and clear bra.

I paid $750 for a new bumper cover, paint, installation and custom bracket to make the AP2 bumper fit my AP1.
