Default Anyone successfully repair a torn top?

I've done a few searches...and what results I've managed to locate do not seem to indicate that folks have had success in repairing a tear in our S2000 softtop .

I'm posting this thread because I should have an opportunity to receive an '02 top from a local Honda dealership. This top received a 1 1/2" tear from some framework that had come disconnected. A very clean cut if I must say...no ragged edges; no stretched fabric...but a cut/tear all the same. This cut exists in what I would deem "a nice, non-binding area" that is well-away from any seams, etc. As such, it would seem to me that it offers itself up as a great candidate for being mended. Yet I've contacted a local Auto Top repair shop & they say it is not repairable. I find that a bit hard to believe. As someone posted on one of the threads I'd searched on, "anything is fixable...whether it LOOKS NICE afterwards might be another story."

So I'm posting this thread now because I *have to believe* one or another owner has had success in having their top mended professionally. If so, please post your experience here. This top is still OFF the car, so I could literally see myself shipping it to a quality shop based on recommendations made here.

So please...help a fella out if you've got experience with having your top mended.

Thanks in advance,
Dave

PS. My car is an '01...so I have: plastic rear window, a small tear in a lower joint/corner where the top folds down, and the "2 creases" developing where most of us that raise/lower our tops repeatedly seem to get them. So this '02 top opportunity could be a godsend...*IF*...I can identify a way/place that is willing to repair the small hole it has. Thanks again!

I think it has been done but I can't remember the thread that talked about it.

I agree that it probably can be repaired. I have no experience to validate this, but I bet if you were to take some good pictures of the tear and show them to some auto upholstery shops, someone's bound to either be able to do it or point you in the right direction.

I might also consider calling some dealerships that specialize in high end vehicles. More than likely they would know of someone reputable to repair torn tops.

Good luck.

Funny how "my world" often seems to be confined to just www.s2ki.com .

Decided to do a Yahoo search on convertible top repair and got the following:

http://search.yahoo.com/search?p=repair+co...-t&cop=mss&tab=

Looks like I have a good bit of investigating to do. And at LEAST there seems to be options
