Default Anyone Think This Is a Bit Much For An Oil Change?

Okay so I just got back into S2000 ownership and am surprised to see that basic oil changes have seemed to go up. When I had my yellow one they usually ran me between $50-$55. Now I am at the dealer waiting for the service to be done and I am told $80 plus tax. WTF?!? So I guess we are no longer in a recession .

yea that is a bit steep, i got my first one at the acura dealer by my house cuz its owned by the same chain of dealers as the Honda dealership where i got my at and its closer. A full synthetic oil change is around 65ish. my first one was free so i only had to pay the difference to get the synthetic but 80 is way too much. try Valvoline. i know its not a Honda certified dealership but they do the entire oil change right in front of you so if anything goes wrong you can catch it right away and they have that free top off deal where if you get low on any fluid they will top you off in between oil changes. i haven't taken my s2000 there yet but i plan on it cuz i didnt like the dealership and i always took my wrx to Valvoline fir years and a max life full synthetic ran about 65 plus you get a coupon in the mail for 7 bucks off

That is steep for sure. Most places I know do it for like $65 with Mobil1 synthetic.
I do all my own ones for like $30 total but $80 is high. Then again your at a stealership lol.
No way to just do them yourself? I really hate taking my car to any shop to have work done. Always find a way to **** something up!

Doesn't surprise me. Mobil1 and a filter will run close to $35. Add a 1/2 hour labor, and $80 sounds about right.

This is why I do my own. I can do it at home in less time than it takes to drive to the dealer, for 1/2 the price.

Mobil1 as well as other leading synthetic oils you can buy at Walmart for $20-$22 per 5 quart jug these days. Really cheap!

Do it yourself. I never trust shops with my car. A shop has never done anything except put tires on my wheels. Replacing the block, maint. stuff I do/did all on my own. And im only 18!

Don't take chances. Learn to do it yourself. For less than $60 I get 5 quarts of Redline and a filter.

In the past 15 years, every place that I have tried has stretched the threads on the plug in the oil pan. Fortunately, when I complained to the service writer at the Ford stealership, he gave me new plugs with new crush washers. The other places, I had to buy the new plugs and crush washers myself.

Wow that's closet rape!

5 quarts of Mobile One 10W30: $22 at Walmart

1 Purolator Pure One Filter $6.50

6-pack of beer: $5.50

Total: $34

Changing the Oil on an S2000 as long as you have a factory jack and a jack stand takes all of 10 minutes and I used to do mine in my townhouse parking spot so where you live is no excuse to not do your own. Not having time is also not an excuse. Don't watch TV at night...change your oil instead. It is literally easier to change an S2000's oil than it is a civic's oil!
