ANYONE WHO BROKE THIER DIFF
I was wondering if anyone who broke thier diff if they have any kind of reinforcement, ie swaybars, strutbars upper, lower. i was told that people that brake thier diff have to much stiffness and not enough flex, i was wondering if its true. post ur comments.
Well, I guess you can chalk me up to that minority group where the diff broke with no suspension mods
. Honestly...I've never heard of that before...
However, I *did* break my diff just after my warranty expired. At that time I had zero suspension mods. Honda good-willed 1/2 of it. It was 100% a result of harsh downshifting in aggressive driving conditions. Add wheel hop & a couple fistfuls of donuts on dry pavement...and I signed up for the short line. By the way...these listed reasons for my diff dying should be avoided by all ya'll
.
I drive a little differently now. Upped my brakes...and I use them in turns now
. Oh, and now my suspension is modded rather tight & slammed. Been that way for well over 60K miles (I have over 100K miles now)...and I've never roasted a 2nd diff.

well, I am on my 3rd diff now. First one (original) failed at about 13K. Got an intake shortly thereafter, second one went at about 34K. Now Im at 48K and no problems so far. The regional honda warranty rep tried to tell me they wouldnt cover another one for me (I have hondacare to 100K) and I pretty much told him to shove it. If this diff fails again, I would go with a comptech housing, ricks 4.44 gears cryo treated and polydyne'd, and a spoon or comprable LSD, spend about half of what an OEM diff costs, and be twice as strong!
To answer your question, no, I did not have any suspension mods at the time!

Interesting thread. I want to see also how many people actually have blown a diff. Im guessing its only a small percentage of all the S owners here.
If you guys can, state what you were doing when it went. Be honest we wont flame you.

I'm pretty curious about this too. I was driving behind dave22 when he blew his (he is Super Charged) which was right around the same time w1ngy (NA Setup) was having some problems. I've been concerned ever since.
dave22 bought new components and had them cryo-treated - hasn't had any issues since.

If I were to pick one mod that's hard on an S2k differential, it's bigger wheels and tires.
I also think deeper gears take some of the strain off the housing where it breaks, but that's just a guess, I'm no engineer.
