1/4 mile times are similar. US spec AP2's make more torque down low but have different gearing to accomodate their lower red line. Most people find that it's easier to go fast in an AP2 while others prefer the responsiveness of the AP1. The AP2 is more tolerant of a wider range of driving styles, so those who don't like the responsiveness of the AP1 see the AP2 as being more stable (which it is). There are even a few people who have owned both AP1's and AP2's who will swear there is little or no difference, or that one is far superior to the other, but the truth lies somewhere inbetween. Whether the differences are significant or not (apparently) depends on how one drives and how one preceives the differences.

If you're trying to decide between an AP1 and an AP2, and cost isn't an issue, the best bet is probably to drive them both and see for yourself which one you like best. If, like some, you feel that the differences are minimal, or that the AP2 is better, then get the newer car. Unless you really love the way the early cars handle or their simper look it probably makes sense to buy the newest car you can afford.

9k might be longer than 8k.

But AP2 is 2.2L and therefore has more girth. And that's what matters, right ladies?
