Default AP1 vs. AP2, Honda's View?

I am a new owner of a 2002 AP1 and I have come to conclusion which I am sure has been discussed here, that revisions of the AP1 into an AP2 was Honda's way to appease the American market, and not because they felt changes were necessary. This is evidenced by the fact that these revisions were never done on S2000 in other countries. Is this generally true?

Because if this is the case, one can deduce that Honda felt they "got it right" with the AP1 and didn't make these changes elsewhere because people outside the USA didn't demand changes. I get it that US is largest market and Honda needed to please us here in USA, but from a purist perspective, the fact that Honda didn't make changes across the board and kept the S2000 consistent over the whole life of the car in other countries and 1/3 its life here in the US (2000-2003) implies that the felt they got it right from the start.

Not a flame war, but just food for thought.

A lot of the AP2 changes made its way into other S2000 outside the US. The made a great handling car more even more stable.

I take it you haven't done much research on this subject. The primary reason for staying at 2.0 liters in other countries when the U.S. went up to 2.2 liters was due to the extra taxes charged on vehicles with engines larger than 2.0 liters in some countries. As already stated, pretty much all of the changes seen in the U.S. AP2 appeared in other countries as well. Many improvements were made to the s2k in the form of the AP2 that improved on an already fantastic car. Were you thinking that your 2002 s2k is the exact same s2k that other countries had in the later (AP2) year models?
