Thumbs up Ap2 halfshafts (axles) on an Ap1?

I have heard that the Ap2 halfshaft are longer than Ap1 halfshafts. So will they fit? i would rather rock some new Ap2 halfshafts than those spacers, as long as it is a direct swap. Thanx for the input.

PS
I have done at least 10 searchs and have thought about this for quite some time.

The AP2 axles (also known as drive shafts) will work fine.

If you swap in an AP2 rear end they will work fine but you need a different flange for the driveshaft (propeller shaft) again with 10mm bolts in place of the 8mm.

I beg to differ. The output shafts are the same on all years. It has always been a 10mm bolt. Only the input flange bolt size changed from year to year. From 8mm to 10mm.

As for legnth, I doubt it. The part numbers are the same for all years.

Why is it that AP1s need halfshaft spacers and AP2s do not?

You have some bad info. Neither need them. They are needed when you change the height and want to maintain the proper depth of the CV joints. But that is even debatable.

^ OK, that is what I meant, I am sorry for the confusion. I saw the motorklasse drive shaft spacers GB thread and it stated that their spacers were not needed on AP2 but were a must for AP1. So this is why I asked if there was a difference between driveshafts.

I started this thread because i have clicks on my lowered 60k mile second hand S2k and i am just trying to find a permenant remedy for my problem.

What makes the spacers debatable, do they or dont they work?
