Ap2's have the laser cut key so it has to be ordered through Honda with your vin and then programmed to the car.

The keys don't need to be ordered by VIN. Many dealers and lock smiths can cut these types of keys from blanks. Here are two places in the PNW.

My wife "Cleaned" the house and now we can't find the normal black key for my S (It is a 2005).

Went to Lowe's and they said they can't cut that type of key.

Went to a local locksmith and they said no problem and they wanted $50.00. That includes a new blank, cut and program.

Just for comparison I called 2 local dealers. One said cutting the key would be free but the blank would cost $32.55 and then programming would be $52.00. The next dealer said cutting and programming would be free, a blank would cost $25.95.

Needless to say I am going up to the more inexpensive dealer this afternoon and pick up a new key

Check with the dealer and see if they are able to get you a T5 key. I am a Honda service advisor and I also drive a 2005 S2000. I got a new Honda key as soon as I purchased the S. Parts was able to cut and program me a T5 key (it says T5 on the actual key itself). That key was able to be programmed at parts, no technician needed. They have a special machine for it and there should be no programming labor charge. It will be just a regular Honda key with a black 'H' symbol but it saves you the xx amount in labor charges.

So, did you end up getting the $25.95 price?

Yes I did. Went to the dealership that afternoon. The parts guy was great he got the Blank (Has the Honda "H" logo), programmed it and cut it. in less than 5 min. Since I had one of the original keys he was able to program it from that and it took less than 15 seconds to program it.

Out the door with tax was less than $27.00.

My dealer wanted well over $300 if I remember correctly. Guess I have to keep an eye on my key.
