Hi all,
I currently have an european 95 MX5/Miata 1.8 and one of the things i admire most on this little roadster is its amazing reliability, with over 80k miles without a single problem (stock clutch, stock shocks, etc.) as seems to be the case for most Honda/Accura cars except for the S2000.

I have owned both Miata and S2000 as well as some others. As competent and reliable as the MX5 is, it lacks the excitement and hard-edged performance the S2000 offers. I never compare the two cars as they offer very different experiences.
I have about 7500 miles on the car since last April and not a single problem so far (knock wood). I love it and have a smile on my face every time I drive it or even think about driving it.
I too ownded a '90 Miata when they first came out and the only problem I ever had with that car in over 130,000 miles of driving was the loss of the driver's side window motor, which was replaced under warranty. I too enjoy a car that is 100% reliable, but also knew in buying the Miata, and now the S2000, that the car may not be as reliable as I would expect. Luckily, I have not had any problems with my car so far, although, I only have about 850 miles on it. If this car were to be trouble free, I would be thrilled, but if not, I am thrilled by the car anyways. There is (to me) a big difference in comparison between a Miata and the S2000 in terms of joy of driving; the S2000 is at a higher level in all aspects.
Considering the S2000 is a brand new model i don't think the problems and recalls reported are exceptional. I've had no problems at all apart from the seat-belt recall. I'm not disappointed, on the contrary, after a couple of months i'm still exstatic!

If you check the posts and watch them carefully I think you will find it's same people over and over again who post these problems. It is actually quite amusing due to the fact they usually follow up the post a few days later with "just got my updated clutch...the tech dared me so I dropped the clutch at 8K to see if it would slip." Duh! This is the type of stuff I feel degrades this board. I have 7,500 miles, with no clutch drops, 1-2 grind, #4 cyl., or diff problems. I would say these problems are the minority and would not let them influence my intention to buy. The seat belt recall on the other hand, although it has not been a problem for me, sucks. Just me .02!
