Is it just me or has anyone else noticed how similar the lines of the s2000 and Aston Martin roadster are? It really bites when one car maker copies the style of another. Those Aston Martin design engineers should be ashamed!
What part of it is so similar to the S2000? Most roadsters have a somewhat similar look: long hood, low seats, low posture, small trunk area, and the list goes on. As for the people who mistake our car for the Miata all the time; does that make the S a copy of the Miata? Good ideas are copied and improved all the time. Chill.
The only thing the V8 Vantage roadster looks like is the DB9. It really is very hard to tell the difference between the two if the viewer hasn't studied the subtle differences between the two cars. Aston designers should be ashamed of the laziness there. Same with Porsche, even though I do like the newer face lift design.
i've noticed it more with the new V8 vantage showing up in car mags the past few months. forward of the doors, they have very similar fender/hood line. ie. the narrowing hood, fenders rising up from the hood and severe wheel bulges when viewed from above/angle. the s2k hood terminates before the front bumper, and the air dams aren't too similar, which gives them more distinctive "casual glance" looks.
Considering they're one of the first companies that actually came up with that design, I would say Honda copied the classic british design before you say Aston Martin stole s2000's design.
Just like how Honda s500 stole the design from Aston Martin DB5.
which was release in 1963.
or better yet, DB4, which was release in 1958, a 5 years before s500 came out.
and DB8 and DB9 is just a gradual design adoptation by Aston Martin,
like this DB7 which was released in 1994, a 6 full years before s2000 went on sale.
Which seems to me, Honda keeps on stealing Aston Martin's previous generation design, since it's about 5 years for a model's design needs to be changed.
Why would Aston Martin steal Honda's design? They're in a different class of their own and have heritage in their design, unlike Honda, which derived from making motors to put it in a bicycle.
can't you tell I'm a huge Aston Martin fan??? They've even gotten better since Prodrive and oil company bought them out from Ford.
OUCH! ARGH! OH! Sorry guys, I thought it would be evident that I was trying to be sarcastic. I'm well aware of Aston Martin's stature in the automotive world.
BUT, never-the-less I still think the lines are similar. That should say a lot for the s2000.
Now, if I can just squeeze this cheezy little 12-banger into my s2000!
It may be difficult to detect sarcasm through words at times. It probably sounds sarcastic to you in your head, but it doesn't really convey in the same way. I still don't see a whole lot of similarities though. I see a bit in the front fender flare, but it's just a common design nowadays in roasters.
God I wish the S looked more like an Aston Martin. I love the S2000's looks but stick it next to a new Aston Martin and it's like a super model bringing her fat hairy sister to the party.
