Default AutoX frist? or get Track time first?

My wife granted me that I could go to some sort of driving class once a year if I behave..grr.. (I should have got the S2k before I got married.. *sigh*)
So.. I need to decide which one I should go first for this summer.

There's an autoX class and a 'Friday at track' thing which gives you a chance to drive on skidpad and on track. both are about same price.
which order I should take (for building confidence racing s2k...)?

AutoX is more beginner-friendly. I also think you need to tell your wife she is only allowed 1 trip to the mall per year if, and only if, she behaves. Why is it that some women hate anything that has to do with cars? Or maybe its they hate anything their man likes since they are trying to remain in control and dominant. Blah, don't get me started, but I will say getting out of that nonsense was the best move of my life.

The first "racing" i ever did was a track event. Then I started to autox. This was in my old car though. I'd probably recommend autox first because if you make a mistake, you spin into a cone, not into a tire barriar (or grass, or wall, etc. depending on the track). And, since an autocross is low speed, there is less of a chance at a serious mistake. But either way, I don't think order matters that much as long as you realize you're there to learn and not to "race".

if you're talking about friday at the track at summit point.... i would definently do that first.... as for you will have an instructor with you the whole time on your first track day..... and you got the skid pad where you can truely learn how to control the car in slides and such.....

wow that sucks!!!! only once a year!!!! ouch!!! well i'll stay away from that subject, but yeah autox is the best place to start in my opinion, because for one it's cheaper, less wear and tear on the car, like tires brakes and such, and you can mess up and be ok almost everysingle time. It has taught me soo much about controlling this car.

I wold say Autocross first. The speeds involved are significantly lower as is the risk. I have seen at least one car wreck at almost every track event I have attended and I have only seen one Autocross mishap. Finally, it is much easier to "feel" the limits at an autocross than a track event.

I autocrossed for two years before I did my first track event and I believe that the AX experience allowed me to hone my track skills much more quickly.

Good luck!

i'm sorry but are you guys just idiots?? or do you just not read properly....

he stated.... "There's an autoX class and a 'Friday at track' thing which gives you a chance to drive on skidpad and on track. both are about same price."......

and he stated "both are about same price"... just incase you chose not to read the above line......

so it's not him running an autoX.... it's him doing an autoX CLASS......

and "friday at the track" if it's the same one i'm thinking about at SUMMIT POINT..... the first time on the track you have an INSTRUCTOR with you the WHOLE time who will tell you what to do and show you how to do things.... it's practically a CLASS... and you get the run on the SKIDPAD which will teach you more in a day then any 1 autoX will ever teach you.....and one day you get 4 runs of 20 minutes each on the track and it's supervised by the INSTRUCTOR.....

one day at "friday at the track" > a full year of auto-x
