Back on OE S-02s

I am back on the Original Equipment S-02s! After playing around with several different brands and sizes (BS RE-730, Kumho 712, and BFG g-Force KDW) I finally returned "home" to the S-02. What a joy! I'm once again "crashing" over small bumps and ruts, dragging small pebbles into the garage, and pondering when I should think about ordering a new set of rear tires (7000 or 9000 miles from now) But I'm also griping the road like crazy, and the wonderful sharp steering response is back. Makes me to this ->

Geez Colin, you sure go through a lot of tires. Did you actually wear them all out or did you replace them before their time. Just curious if you can tell us which ones had the best wear. We now know for sure which ones grip the best.

Xviper,
Remember we have S2ks! However, I never thought I'd change tires as frequently as some other people change OIL! I guess the longest lasting were the BFGs. They went about 15000 on the rears, and I still have more on the fronts (I'm saving them for the end of the lease and then I'll put them back on with a new set of rears).
My personal pet peev is sloppy steering response. Since the RE-730 and the BFG had softer sidewalls, the exibited more flex and I liked them less. The Kumho had a decent stiffness to them, but the grip was poor, maybe the worst of the bunch. They also got much harder (sooner) as they aged and I got rid of them long before the tread was totally gone.
Sev,
I tried the RA1 on my MR-2 Turbo, and while the grip was impressive (we did a few autoxes with them) I found them similar to other Toyo's and thought the sidewalls were too soft. I sold that car not long after I put them on the car so I cannot comment on the expected lifespan of the tires.
