Bad Engine Break in
This is an emotional debate, not a debate of any facts.
What has failed? How do you know? What diffference does it make?
I have seen engines with redline after building and 3k moderate driving, none burned oil or had magical hp increases.
Ring design, metallurgy, and clearances have all improved dramatically. As long as you don't use synthetic in the first oil (and even that is debatable), you will be fine.

It says in the manual to do a break in. Honda wouldn't put that in there.
I got mine with 6 miles and would refuse to buy anything with more than 10.

break in for a new engine does not usually mean that you have to baby it. it actually means that you're supposed to run it under different load conditions. that is, constantly changing engine speed and load induced. my s had 40 mls when i got it, and i'm sure some of them were hard miles. just check the service manual you get - the PID actually requires the mechanic to run the car at all engine speeds.
also, keep in mind that all engines are tested in the factory, some of them in the car, some outside.
here's the bummer though: i used to work for a car manufacturer back in germany - they took every 100th car or so of the line, disconnected the odo and ran it over backroads for 40 mls . after that the car got prepared for delivery and no one could really tell anymore.

I've been to the BMW assembly plant in South Carolina - EVERY car that comes off the line goes through final test which includes a dyno run at various RPM's, speeds, loads, including over 100mph and a run up to redline.
I wouldn't be too concerned about it - especially being a honda
btw - my CR had 3 miles on it when I got it.

There is a pretty big debate about engine break-in, but let's just say that many people have driven their s2000s very hard right off the lot and have not had any engine problems up through very high mileages (80k+).
Relax, it's a Honda
