Default Bad gas mileage with the A/C on???

I have been getting really bad gas mileage recently.
I used to get 250 miles per fill-up and each fill-up is a bit more than 10 gallons. Therefore my mpg is 23-25.

Now it's summer time and I'm using the A/C more...I'm lucky to get about 200 miles per fill-up.

I don't think I'm doing anything different (maybe's the flood water that got into the gas tank...jk).

What do you think?

I don't know about gas mileage but power is greatly affected with the A/C on.

I am no mechanic, nor am i an engineer but i think that's normal. you definitely have a little less power with the ac on so i think you probably put your foot into it a little harder.

my civic ex never got less than 30 mpg (5 speed) unless i had the air on. then it would consistently get 28 -29 mpg. i have to believe the correlation holds true.

one last thought.

20 mpg is still pretty damned good for a 240 hp rocket that does 60 in less than 6 seconds. I think its a real testament to the engineering of this baby.

Come on people. This is a no brainer. Of course gas milage is going to suffer with the AC on. More strain on the motor means more fuel burned. duh. What's next, my car seems to burn more gas when I drive up to the mountains. My car seems to burn more gas when I'm pulling my boat....

Am I over reacting? maybe, I need a vacation. Good thing it's Friday.....sorry.

Yeah, the answer to this thread is pretty obvious. After saying that, my gas mileage is about 24 mpg even with the AC on most of the time. So it's not too bad. Also, we're only talking about a few extra dollars at the gas pump. No big deal.

I drive my car in the high revs a lot and have been recently tracking my gas milage.

One week of full street driving, 18.8 mpg
One weekend of full freeway driving, 23 mpg

Hmmm, I wonder if it will get better or if that is what I should expect all the time because of the way I drive it.

I SURE DO LOVE TO VTEC

This probably has more to do with the type of driving you are doing. My last road trip included more than one tank with the AC on at 75-95mph, but because it was almost all top up in 6th gear I got 29/30 mpg (over 300 miles per tank).

But I only get 19 in the city and 9 at the track.

ITR,

Yeah man...the AC eats extra gas in my car.

I try not to have it on if all possible...

I bet an inner cover for the soft top would help out. Sometimes I can feel the heat on my head that has penetrated the soft top.
