The other day I spun my tires at a stop light and now there is a bad smell coming from the car in motion. I have the RM Racing intake and was wondering if it might be from that? Brakes? Smells like something is burning, I have 2500 miles on it, oil? Not sure, any ideas. Havent taken it in yet

revhard,

Maybe you burned your clutch that day...it's no biggie.
The smell can last for a couple days.

How strong is the burning smell?

I get a faint burning smell sometimes after a hard night of racing...

burned my clutch? Will this require a new clutch? or am I being paranoid? Or did I just shorten the life of the clutch?
Thanks

revhard,

On the night that you did your launch...did it seem like the clutch slipped a little, and the car did not jump off the line? That is called burning the clutch. All it is...is when you don't jump off the clutch fast enough, it doesn't engage all the way...and you slip/burn the clutch. You would have immediately smelled a strong metal burning smell.

It's not good for your clutch...but once or twice isn't going to do anything. I have accidentaly done it 3-4 times in the car's life.

Now, back to your car...how strong is the smell when you are driving it normal?

The smell is strong on the passenger side asfter I drive it for awhile. When I get down and smell the brakes they smell but not this potent smell.

Hmmm...not sure what it is other than just the clutch...if the smell is strong and it doesn't go away...I would bring it to the dealer.

Just check all your fluids for now and you should be o.k. (oil, tranny fluid, etc...).

revhard,

Look under your car for any debris. I have had plastic bags get caught under there a couple of times and melt from the heat of the exhaust. It smells for ever until the bag melts away or you scrape it off.
