Barry, I hope all goes well and it's not too serious. Engine failures in the 2001s (Jason) would not be good news...

Barry, doesn't sound good but at least you seem to have a good attitude about it. Sounds just like what my car sounded like, so my guess is a scored piston/wall and collapsed apron. How many miles on the clock?

This is the third 2001 that I've heard with the exact same problem! DOH!

And I agree that it is something that's better to find out about sooner rather than later. My new engine sounds completely different than the old one. We had a problem from day one... it was only a matter of time. I'll be interested to hear what cylinder it is... mine and the other person was #4 cylinder.

Good luck with the fix... unfortunately they have to replace the bottom end only, which means a new head gasket and dealer rebuild. Something I could have done without!

Hey Aus/Muz, have you tried the BP PULP yet. I swear by it and can feel a +ve difference compared to Optimax, Not only that ... its an average of 3c a litre less too.

Barry, my sympathy. I once cracked an engine block (428 CJ) on the highway, drove to the garage with a big cloud of steam behind, very embarrassing. Good luck on the repair.

Ditto here, Barry. I hope it is nothing serious. Best of luck to you!
