battery replacement
A battery is a battery to me.. unless your trying to shed weight or you want to run a crazy stereo. I gave about $80 for my autozone battery. The biggest load on a battery drawn from the starter and when I push the start button my car starts everytime, all the time. I dont know how someone can justify paying so much for a battery.. The money saved can go to other mods..
I need to get a new battery too. With something like 800 watts going through my system, I have a hard time keeping it charged. Might just try the Energizer and see if it's better than factory.
There is a concern among members of this board about the size and weight of replacement batteries. They want a battery as light as possible, and with performance, weight is your enemy. I am reminded of a guy at a car club meeting who asked what was the cheapest way to get more performance out of his car. One person answered "go on a diet!" From a technical standpoint, actually not bad advice!
Back to batteries. I replaced my OEM when it was shot with a $60 Autozone battery, and found that it is both a bit smaller and significantly lighter than the OEM. Its amperage and other ratings are higher too.
I don't see a reason to go to a high dollar battery. They all wear out in a few years, no matter how much we pay.
Thanks,
Richard

Size and weight are secondary to me and probably to anyone in a cold climate. Cold weather starting is the most important criterion. Light weight doesn't mean a thing if the battery doesn't put out enough at low temperatures to start the car. With that in mind, what would people's recomendations be?

I (Silver9k under a friends name) had a Hawker Odyssey PC680 for a year and a half. It just suddenly died last month. I loved that it weighed next to nothing, but it was slow to start the car on COLD mornings (20 degrees). And well...I expected a much longer life out of it, though I did run it dry quite a few times due to other problems...however that supposedly isn't a problem according to Hawker Batteries.
This is just my experience with the battery...it worked great for a year and a half, then it suddenly died and will not hold a charge. I'm going back to OEM, since 06' they upgraded the battery for the s2000 to a 500amp battery rather then 440

The small, light Autozone battery I bought as an OEM replacement has 550 cranking amps at 32 degrees, and 450 at 0 degrees. That's better than the OEM, I think. We haven't been down to 0 around here for several winters. And when it gets there, everybody stays home, anyway.
